About

Zsidai

At the heart of everything we do is family – bound by tradition, driven by passion, and united by a love for the well-lived life.
As cultural ambassadors and curious explorers we create places where people feel at home, where a great plate and a good conversation bring them together, and where heritage meets bold new concepts.

We celebrate both the grand and the ordinary. We find just as much joy in a perfect morning sunbeam as in opening a new restaurant. Because for us, it’s never about what we celebrate, but who we share it with. In the end, nothing truly matters except the lingering conversations after a family feast, when only crumbs and empty espresso cups remain on the table.

Life isn’t always easy, but we know that a good glass of wine, a heartfelt meal, or a kind word can bring comfort even in difficult times. That’s why we do what we do—not just to serve, but to create experiences that matter.

We embrace both sides of the city. The timeless elegance of Buda’s historic restaurants and the electric pulse of Pest’s nightlife. We are Spilers at heart, always ready for the next journey, but we never forget our way back home.

This mindset shapes our work, our family, and the legacy we build for the next generations. We believe in the power of human connection, in the value of hard work, passion, and relentless dedication.

HAPPENING NOW

Family

The Zsidai family’s culinary journey began in 1982 when Ilona Zsidai and Peter Zsidai opened Café Pierrot in Budapest’s historic Buda Castle District. At a time when private restaurants were rare in socialist Hungary, Ilona’s vision and dedication played a crucial role in shaping Pierrot into a haven for artists, diplomats, and food lovers. With her refined taste and deep passion for hospitality, she created an atmosphere that was both elegant and welcoming—setting the foundation for what would become one of Hungary’s most respected restaurant groups.

Ilona & Péter

Ilona Zsidai is a defining figure in Hungarian hospitality and a driving force behind the gastronomic renaissance of the Buda Castle District. In 1982, she and her husband, Péter Zsidai, founded Café Pierrot – a place that brought a new level of quality, elegance, and guest experience to Budapest.

She began her career in international hotel management but soon discovered her true calling in building her own business: creating community around the table, delivering joy through hospitality, and reshaping an entire neighborhood with her vision. As a leader, she has always believed in the power of details – from the perfect plating of a dish to the atmosphere that welcomes every guest.

Together with her husband, Péter – who played a key role in the business as a steady and pragmatic partner – they laid the foundations of the family company. Péter’s strategic thinking, discipline, and long-term commitment were essential to the company’s stability and growth.

Ilona’s decades of work, passion, and uncompromising dedication to quality continue to shape the spirit of the Zsidai Group – setting a lasting example for future generations.

Roy

I’ve always believed that restaurants and hotels are about so much more than just serving good food and providing a comfy bed. They’re about people, atmosphere, stories, and traditions that deserve to be celebrated. My passion lies in blending Hungarian heritage with global influences, making sure Budapest isn’t just keeping up with the world, but setting the standard.

After studying at Harvard, Georgetown, and Cornell and working with Boston Consulting Group, I jumped into the family business with one goal: to continue to build timeless and lasting value.

I’m a traveler, an explorer, and someone who believes in openness and community. I draw inspiration from around the world and bring it home with a playful yet strategic approach, a deep belief in family, and an obsession with quality and design.

At the heart of everything we do is the guest—the origin, the starting point, the reason behind it all. Whether it’s a fleeting moment of joy or a memory they’ll share for years, our goal is to create experiences that truly matter.

For me, hospitality isn’t just about great service—it’s about shaping culture, creating experiences, and making Budapest a true global dining destination while preserving the traditions that matter most.
