40 YEARS, 40 STORIES | THE STORY OF FORTUNA STREET

Fortuna Street is linked to two very strong family stories from the time of the Second World War.

Fortuna Street is linked to two very strong family stories from the time of the Second World War.

In 1944, during the siege of Budapest, the house number 21 in Fortuna Street was bombed to the ground floor, where 21 Hungarian Kitchen is located today. To the left of it, Roy's grandparents were married in the basement during the siege.

Shortly afterwards, a tank "parked" in front of the bakery that was then operating on the site of the present Pierrot's was blown up by a grenade...

37 years later Ilona and Peter took the advice of their Austrian friend to look for a property in Buda Castle for their future café. How fateful that it was in the same former bakery, at 14 Fortuna Street, that they found the building where they opened the wonderful Pierrot on 21 October 1982.
