The Restaurant’s History and Concept
The idea of opening 21 Hungarian Kitchen first emerged in the early 1990s when the Zsidai family acquired the property at 21 Fortuna Street. The building once housed a grocery store, and after several transformations, 21 Hungarian Kitchen opened its doors in 2008. The goal was to create a Hungarian restaurant that revived the long-lost “Sindbad-like” gastronomic experience but in a fresh and original way, avoiding the clichés of a “typical Hungarian restaurant” both in its kitchen and design.
Cuisine and Menu
The kitchen at 21 Hungarian Kitchen represents old-fashioned Hungarian cuisine in a contemporary way. Every effort is made to preserve the original traditional flavors while making the dishes lighter compared to their classic versions. To achieve this, the restaurant uses only the finest ingredients, sourced fresh from local markets, and incorporates modern cooking techniques.
The menu features Hungarian classics such as goulash soup with dumplings, Hortobágyi-style pancakes, chicken paprikash with buttery dumplings, Somlói sponge cake, and Black Forest cake. Seasonal specials are also available, crafted with fresh ingredients and the latest culinary trends in mind.
